Sequelae of open surgery for lumbar disc herniation

The sequelae of open surgery for lumbar disc herniation are mainly the following two kinds: First, the most common and most difficult problem, although open surgery is done after lumbar disc herniation to completely remove the lumbar disc, it leads to accelerated degeneration of the adjacent segments. Since open surgery for lumbar disc herniation requires fixation of two segments, but the other adjacent segments will degenerate rapidly, even leading to serious consequences such as lumbar instability, osteophytes and lumbar disc herniation, and eventually another surgical treatment has to be chosen. Second, open surgery requires fixation of the vertebrae after treatment, so it will inevitably lead to a decrease in vertebral mobility, which may have a more serious impact in daily life.
