What is the order of palpation of axillary lymph nodes

The axillary lymph nodes are located in the axilla, including the triangle of the axilla and the anterior axilla where it connects to the breast, and upward to the lymph nodes above and below the clavicle. The axillary examination is usually performed with the patient in a standing position, with the patient’s hands on the shoulders of the examining health care provider, face to face. The upper extremities are allowed to abduct and then the palm of the hand is pressed toward the patient’s chest, and while the patient is asked to relax, a gentle motion is used to begin examining the lymph nodes at the top of the axilla from the top down, then turning to the anterior side of the axilla to examine the lymph nodes around the pectoralis major muscle. Finally, the lymph nodes around the axillary fossa, posterior wall, and latissimus dorsi are checked while standing behind the patient, and then the lymph nodes above and below the clavicle are checked.
