Epidemiologically, the first suspected and relevant case of novel coronavirus pneumonia was found in Wuhan’s South China Seafood Market, which is highly suspected to be caused by eating wildlife or close contact with wildlife, but so far it is not clear what type of wildlife is responsible for the disease because there are no particularly clear epidemiological findings. The virus responsible for the novel coronavirus pneumonia has been found to be a coronavirus, which is homologous to SARS. Based on the epidemiological investigation, it was found that 85% of the virus strains isolated from bats were consistent with the novel coronavirus, and it was suspected that the novel coronavirus pneumonia might be caused by close contact with bats or by eating bats. Later, it was found that 99% of the new coronavirus strains were similar and homologous to the known strains in pangolins, and it is now suspected that the virus originated from pangolins or used pangolins as intermediate hosts. However, further scientific research or demonstration may be needed to clarify the exact cause. Source: Dr. Yurai
