Stomach cancer is a common malignant tumor, and people are used to the idea that if they have stomach cancer, they have to undergo surgery, and if they cannot undergo surgery, it is “hopeless”. People tend to adopt a negative treatment attitude after the discovery of advanced gastric cancer. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy refers to chemotherapy before gastric cancer surgery to control gastric cancer, expecting to reduce the stage or size of advanced gastric cancer or gastric cancer that is difficult to be removed surgically after chemotherapy, in order to achieve the goal of surgical removal. Recent clinical data support the adoption of neoadjuvant chemotherapy for patients with advanced gastric cancer that cannot be radically resected, and the data show that the radical resection rate of advanced gastric cancer patients with neoadjuvant chemotherapy is significantly increased. In our clinical practice, we also found that most patients who were preoperatively evaluated as advanced or difficult to be resected radically had their tumor resection rate greatly improved after neoadjuvant chemotherapy. In the current situation that neoadjuvant chemotherapy is not yet accepted by all physicians and patients, many physicians choose to perform surgery for patients with advanced gastric cancer, resulting in decreased resection rate and insufficient radical resection, which finally affects the treatment outcome. Therefore, it is very important to choose the appropriate treatment plan after the diagnosis of gastric cancer. The old habit of preferring surgery should be gradually changed, instead, the resectability rate of gastric cancer should be comprehensively evaluated before selecting the treatment plan according to the stage of gastric cancer. Neoadjuvant chemotherapy should undoubtedly be included as one of the first treatment options. For patients and their families, they should trust the judgment and advice of professional doctors about the disease, rather than choosing treatment options based on their own and previous incomplete knowledge.
