What causes swelling of the face in old age

There are many causes of facial edema in the elderly, which may be due to renal dysfunction, cardiac dysfunction, liver disease and so on, or it may be a normal physiological phenomenon.
1. Renal dysfunction: If the patient suffers from renal diseases such as glomerulonephritis, it may cause symptoms such as hypoproteinemia, sodium retention and so on, thus causing nephrogenic edema.
2. Cardiac dysfunction: cardiac dysfunction will cause the heart to lose its pumping function, which will increase the pressure in the venous system, and the blood components will leak out and lead to the retention of body fluids, which will lead to the edema of the face.
3. Liver disease: Liver disease will lead to a decrease in the amount of albumin in the blood, a decrease in osmotic pressure leading to fluid leakage, and at the same time lead to portal hypertension, causing facial edema.
4. Physiological phenomenon: If the elderly drink too much water, consume too much salt, or due to age vascular permeability becomes high, will cause facial edema.
If the edema in the face of the elderly does not subside for a long time and is accompanied by other symptoms, it should be timely to go to the hospital for examination and diagnosis.
