“World Sleep Day”

The theme of this year’s World Sleep Day is “Healthy Sleep and Safe Travel”, and the Department of Psychiatry of our hospital, together with the Department of Respiratory Medicine, held a public welfare clinic and popularization activities.   Neurologist and sleep specialist Zhou Bo Rong, director of the Department of Respiratory Medicine Wei Liping, deputy chief physician Lin Min and other medical staff patiently answered the questions about sleep for the patients who came to consult, providing the correct guidance for scientific management of sleep and early elimination of sleep disorders. The event received about 100 patients and distributed more than 400 copies of promotional materials. Director Zhou Bo Rong, a sleep specialist from the Department of Psychiatry, pointed out that when sleep disorders occur, we need to adjust our habits and attitudes towards sleep in time, but the most reliable solution is to actively obtain help from a sleep specialist when sleep disorders persist, find the cause, diagnose correctly, and carry out psychological guidance or medication in time to eliminate all the troubles brought by sleep disorders. Respiratory medicine specialist Wei Liping, director of the consultation, reminded that snoring, always feel breathless, with blood pressure is difficult to control, then be alert to sleep apnea syndrome. Patients with sleep apnea syndrome show excessive daytime sleepiness, nighttime insomnia, snoring, morning headache, decreased libido and intelligence, and in persistent cases, symptoms of cardiopulmonary failure and even sudden death, and may have signs such as overweight, hypertension, arrhythmia, pulmonary hypertension, voice abnormalities, increased intracranial pressure, and positive findings in the ear, nose and throat. Studies have proven that drivers with sleep apnea are seven times more likely to be in a car accident than normal drivers due to drowsiness, and 83% of traffic fatalities. Drowsiness is a worse road killer than alcohol consumption.
