Can colon cancer be cured?

Whether colon cancer is curable or not has more to do with the early or late detection. In addition, there are many types of colon cancer, and different types, with different degrees of malignancy, can also affect the outcome of treatment.

If detected early and with low malignancy, it is easy to achieve a radical cure. The stage and malignancy of the tumor can be determined by imaging, including colonoscopy and ultrasound colonoscopy, abdominal CT, and other procedures, as well as pathological examination.

Usually, in situ cancer, with surgical treatment, can mostly achieve radical cure. For colon cancer of lower malignancy, even with mild infiltration of surrounding tissues, radical cure is possible with resection of diseased tissue, plus clearance of surrounding lymph nodes, with chemotherapy.

Higher malignancy, or tumors that are not very malignant but are detected late and have extensive metastases that cannot be completely removed by surgery, make it difficult to achieve radical cure.
