How to treat hiccups

Almost everyone has experienced hiccups at some point. Not only do adults get hiccups, children get hiccups, and even fetuses in their mothers’ wombs get hiccups. Even more interestingly, puppies and cats can hiccup. Hiccups are a small thing, but if they go on and on, I’m afraid no one can stand them. In the lighter cases, it can affect sleep, meals and work, and in the heavier cases, it can aggravate existing heart and lung diseases and cause gastrointestinal bleeding due to tearing of the esophageal mucosa. …… What are hiccups? The medical term for hiccups is “hiccups”. Temporary hiccups can occur after cold stimulation, a full meal, eating too fast, or eating dry or hard food. Why do we have hiccups? Between our thoracic and abdominal cavities, there is a thick, hat-like muscle membrane called the diaphragm that separates the thoracic and abdominal cavities. Like other organs in the body, the diaphragm has a nerve distribution and blood supply. When the trigger stimulus that causes hiccups is transmitted to the brain, the brain sends instructions to cause paroxysmal and spasmodic contractions of the diaphragm, and hiccups occur. Continuous or intractable hiccups are often caused by emergencies such as encephalopathy, uremia, and diabetes complicated by ketosis. There are also many serious illnesses that can cause intractable hiccups, and it is especially noteworthy that if an individual in critical condition develops intractable hiccups, it often suggests a poor prognosis. To treat hiccups, it is important to first treat the primary disease causing the hiccups and then treat the symptoms. Here are some easy and practical ways to block the nerve reflexes that cause hiccups to stop. 1. Distraction and elimination of tension and bad stimuli. Not talking while eating can prevent hiccups. 2, first take a deep breath, then hold it for as long as possible, and then exhale, repeatedly several times; or bend over to drink water, containing a mouthful of water, swallowing immediately when the eruption will occur, can also stop the onset of eruption 3, drink boiling water, especially drinking slightly hot water, drink a large mouthful, swallowed in parts. 4, wash your hands, insert your index finger into your mouth and gently stimulate the pharynx, or use a cotton swab to stimulate the junction of the hard and soft parts of the palate. 5.Inhale the gas mixture in a plastic bag, the gas mixture contains 90% oxygen and 10% carbon dioxide. 6.Chew ginger slices, dry eat a spoonful of sugar, chew and swallow dry bread, sucking crushed ice 7.Wash raw leeks, squeeze out the vegetable juice and take orally. 8.Persimmon tips (referring to the tips of fresh persimmons or persimmon cakes) 20 pieces at a time, decocted into 100 ml of water and taken orally in two doses, 50 ml at a time. Can also add leek seeds with the decoction as appropriate. 9.Hold your hands on your knees and press your chest. 10.Ice packs at the diaphragm. 11.When an infant has hiccups, hold the infant up and gently tickle the infant with your fingertips around the mouth or ears, usually until the infant laughs, the hiccups will stop. 12.When the hiccups are frequent, you can press the “Shaoshang” points on both sides with your own fingers or ask someone else to do so. “Shaoshang” point is located on the radial side of the root of the thumb nail, about 0.6 cm from the nail edge, at the junction of the black and white flesh. Compression should be applied with a certain amount of force, so that the patient has a significant soreness. If the hiccups are difficult to stop, if there is no special discomfort, you can listen to nature and it will usually stop after a while. If you have hiccups continuously for a long time, you should consult a doctor. Sudden continuous hiccups in middle-aged and elderly people or those who are sick may indicate a disease or deterioration in their condition and require attention.
