Long bean curd, or cowpea, is recommended for gout patients in moderation. A high-purine diet can induce gout, so gout patients are generally not recommended to consume high-purine foods and limit the intake of medium-purine foods. Cowpea is a kind of legume that contains carotene, riboflavin, vitamin C, protein, carbohydrates and other components, which can provide the human body with the required nutrients; however, 100g of cowpea contains 45mg of purine, which is a medium-purine food. Excessive consumption of medium purine foods such as cowpeas, peas and sesame seeds is not conducive to controlling uric acid levels in the body, so gout patients are advised to consume them in moderation. Eggs, oats, brown rice, skimmed milk, bananas, strawberries and other dietary choices are available, and the daily water intake should be increased to more than 2.0L. Gout patients are advised to consult the nutrition department and rheumatology department of regular hospitals for dietary and lifestyle precautions.
