Azithromycin is a macrolide and is indicated for the treatment of mycoplasma or chlamydia infections. Azithromycin can be applied in cases of penicillin or cephalosporin allergy, as a skin test is not required. Azithromycin is usually used for 5 days, and some can be used for up to 7 days. The longest time for the treatment of mycoplasma infection is 3-4 days after stopping after 5 days of static dosing, and then a second static dosing of azithromycin can be performed, at which time it can also be static dosed for another 3-5 days. Because of the long half-life of azithromycin, it cannot be used for more than 7-10 days like other antibiotics. The longest number of days for azithromycin in children is 5 days of static dosing.
