Scoliosis can cause soreness in the spinal muscles. With the spine curved to one side, the muscles on the other side will be under constant tension, which can cause muscle fatigue and soreness. Students with scoliosis need to study for long periods of time, which can also cause muscle fatigue. Scoliosis also causes degeneration of the joints, which can also cause pain. These aches and pains are usually constant and can be a nuisance to the patient’s life. Unfortunately, there is no effective cure for the chronic pain caused by scoliosis, so here are a few ways you can get pain relief. In the outpatient clinic, I often support scoliosis patients in strengthening their physical activity to reduce the pain associated with scoliosis; firstly, gymnastic exercise, which improves strength and flexibility, strengthens the support of the low back muscles, and, in combination with non-narcotic medication, can lead to an improvement in the number of episodes of pain, their degree and duration. It is important to note that narcotic medications should not be used for the treatment of chronic pain as they may lead to drug dependence. Medication needs to be used with caution and as prescribed by the doctor. Next is physical therapy; you can have a physical therapist use heat, ice, electrical stimulation, traction and other treatments to help relieve pain. Sometimes chiropractic care can be tried to relieve acute back pain. However, it is unrealistic to rely on massage to “correct” scoliosis, so don’t rely on such treatment recommendations. Finally, there are lifestyle changes. Lifestyle changes can help relieve pain, such as reducing physical labor and changing jobs if necessary. Pain can be triggered and aggravated by maintaining the same position for a long time, such as sitting and standing for a long time. These methods may help to relieve acute pain, but can only improve long-term chronic pain to a small extent. Surgery is the fundamental treatment for scoliosis. If you have reached the stage where surgery is necessary, please put down the burden of thought and undergo surgery seriously.
