Barrett’s esophagus is a pathological phenomenon in which the squamous epithelium of the lower esophagus is replaced by a single layer of columnar epithelium, which belongs to precancerous diseases. Common clinical symptoms of barrett’s esophagus include acid reflux, heartburn, chest pain, etc. Some patients may have no obvious discomfort. Diagnosis is mainly based on endoscopy and pathologic examination. Treatment of barrett’s esophagus includes general treatment, medication and surgery. General treatment includes adjusting the diet structure, avoiding irritating food; adjusting eating habits, avoiding lying down after meals or eating before bedtime. Pharmacological treatment can use proton pump inhibitors such as omeprazole and lansoprazole and gastrointestinal dynamics such as domperidone. Surgery can be considered if medical treatment is ineffective and accompanied by complications.
