How long does a newborn baby sleep a day

Most newborns sleep for about 20 hours a day, almost all day, and will be awake for about 15-20 minutes to get tired and move on to the next sleep cycle. Newborns usually wake up for about 2-3 hours to feed, and spend the rest of the day basically asleep. Of course this varies from person to person, some babies are more energetic and sleep for a relatively short period of time, which is related to the level of activity of the cerebral cortex. As the newborn’s cerebral cortex is not well developed, the sleep time will be longer. With the growth of day age, the cerebral cortex will gradually be well developed, and the sleep time of newborns will be shortened accordingly, to about two months, the sleep time will be about 16 hours, and the waking time will be relatively longer.
