Why is there a three-month recovery period after atrial fibrillation surgery?

The reason for the three-month recovery period after atrial fibrillation surgery is mainly due to the fact that after undergoing atrial fibrillation ablation, there is a risk of edema in the atrial endocardium, at which point the atrial fibrillation may recur. The atrial fibrillation procedure, known as atrial fibrillation interventional radiofrequency ablation, is performed minimally invasively. By intervening, the surgeon cuts off the refractory pathway in the atria, thus curing the atrial fibrillation. Since the procedure is damaging to the endocardium, the endocardium of the atria is in a state of edema for about three months after the procedure, at which time a new refractory pathway may form under the endocardium, leading to the recurrence of atrial fibrillation. Atrial fibrillation is also prone to thrombus formation after surgery, and anticoagulation therapy such as warfarin needs to be given after surgery. So there is a recovery period of about three months after AF surgery. Therefore, patients need to pay attention to the regularity of work and rest, avoid emotional excitement, quit smoking and drinking, and follow the doctor’s instructions for medication for about three months after the atrial fibrillation surgery.
