Proper massage for popliteal cysts

There is no way to get rid of a popliteal cyst with massage. Massage can only irritate the cyst, and even if massage breaks it, it may return, so massage is not recommended for popliteal cysts. Most popliteal cysts are secondary to intra-articular pathologies, including arthritis within the joint, meniscal injuries, or ligament injuries. These conditions can lead to the formation of joint effusions. Once the pressure of the effusion reaches a certain level, the joint capsule can be extruded through a flap structure in the posterior medial joint capsule of the knee. The joint fluid passes through the flap into the posterior aspect of the joint and slowly collects, forming a popliteal cyst. Treatment options for popliteal cysts need to be determined by the patient’s symptoms and the type of cyst. For asymptomatic popliteal cysts, no treatment can be given for the time being; it usually heals on its own or progresses very slowly. For symptomatic popliteal cysts, conservative treatment or surgery is required. For patients with popliteal cysts, it is recommended to consult a doctor in time to clarify the cause of the disease, follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment, and avoid massage to avoid affecting the condition.
