Ulcerative colitis is a type of chronic enteritis and the two cannot be distinguished. However, it is possible to differentiate between common chronic enteritis and ulcerative colitis by clinical manifestations, colonoscopy and treatment modalities. 1. Clinical manifestations: Generally speaking, the manifestations of common chronic enteritis are not as serious as those of ulcerative colitis. Common chronic enteritis mostly appears abdominal discomfort, mild abdominal pain and diarrhea and other symptoms; while ulcerative colitis more recurring diarrhea, mucus, pus and blood stools and abdominal pain, and in severe cases, there will be fever, anemia, hypoproteinemia and other systemic reactions. 2. Colonoscopy: ordinary chronic enteritis is only intestinal congestion, erosion and other common inflammatory manifestations; ulcerative colitis colonoscopy manifested as obvious diffuse erosion, multiple shallow ulcers, intestinal mucosal roughness, fine granular, inflammatory polyps, repeated ulcerative healing, scarring can make the deformation of the colon to shorten the colonic pouch becomes shallow. 3. Treatment: ordinary chronic enteritis usually after dietary modification, symptomatic treatment and anti-infective treatment symptoms can be relieved; while the onset of ulcerative colitis is related to the body’s immune system, and often need to use glucocorticosteroids, such as hydrocortisone, dexamethasone and other treatments. Therefore, chronic enteritis and ulcerative colitis performance and treatment are not the same, the patient should go to the hospital in time to clarify the diagnosis, early formal treatment. Drugs should be used under the guidance of a doctor.
