Can macular laminar fissures be treated?

Macular laminar cleft can be treated. Patients with stage 1 or 2 macular laminar tear can be observed first, while patients with stage 3 or 4 macular laminar tear and visual acuity less than 0.5 should be treated with surgery as soon as possible. Macular laminar cleft may be idiopathic or related to factors such as ocular trauma, high myopia, and macular degeneration. In terms of treatment, idiopathic macular laminar tear usually does not develop retinal detachment, and patients with stage I or II macular laminar tear have visual acuity of 0.5 or above. In comparison, the risk of surgical treatment is relatively high, so observation can be the mainstay first. If an idiopathic macular laminar tear is found to have a tendency to progress into a Stage III or Stage IV macular tear, it should be treated with surgery as soon as possible. If the macular laminar tear is caused by ocular trauma, high myopia, macular degeneration, etc., and the visual acuity may have already dropped below 0.5 at the time of diagnosis, it can be treated with surgery such as vitrectomy and endothelial membrane peeling as soon as possible. If a macular laminar tear is diagnosed, follow your doctor’s instructions for treatment.
