What is multiple endocrine adenomatosis?

Multiple endocrine adenomatosis is a condition in which two or more endocrine adenomas appear simultaneously or sequentially in the patient, causing hyperfunction of the endocrine glands. Patients with multiple endocrine adenomas are classified into type I and type II depending on the gland in which they develop, and the treatment of multiple endocrine adenomas is based on the different types. Patients with type I tend to present with parathyroid disease, resulting in hyperparathyroidism, which necessitates surgical removal of the parathyroid adenoma. In the other case, patients exhibit other common endocrine hormone dysfunctions such as hypertension and hypercalcemia, which are considered multiple endocrine adenomatosis and need to be promptly examined in a hospital.
