Where is the S6 segment of the liver?

The location of the S6 segment of the liver is in the lower part of the right posterior lobe of the liver.
Internationally, the liver is divided into right and left hemihepatic, five lobes and eight segments based on the distribution and course of intrahepatic blood vessels.
1. The liver is divided into the right and left halves of the liver by the middle hepatic vein.
2. The left half of the liver is divided longitudinally into the left inner lobe and the left outer lobe by the left hepatic vein, and the left outer lobe is divided into upper and lower segments by the left branch of the hepatic portal vein.
3. The right half of the liver was divided longitudinally into the right anterior lobe and the right posterior lobe by the right hepatic vein, and the right anterior lobe and the right posterior lobe were divided into the upper and lower segments by the right branch of the hepatic portal vein.
4. The part of the liver sandwiched between the inferior vena cava and the portal vein at the porta hepatis is the caudate lobe of the liver, with the caudate lobe as the first segment, counting clockwise. Thus, S1 is the caudate lobe, S2 is the upper segment of the left external lobe, S3 is the lower segment of the left external lobe, S4 is the left internal lobe, S5 is the lower segment of the right anterior lobe, S6 is the lower segment of the right posterior lobe, S7 is the upper segment of the right posterior lobe, and S8 is the upper segment of the right anterior lobe.
The segmentation of the liver is closely related to its anatomy, and understanding the segmentation of the liver can be applied to imaging analysis, which not only facilitates the localization and diagnosis of liver diseases in the clinic, but also guides the surgeon to perform liver-related surgeries, which greatly reduces the risk of damage to the intrahepatic ducts, and also has a positive significance for patients.
