Different types of insulins have different duration of action. According to the source and chemical structure, insulins can be divided into animal insulins, human insulins and insulin analogues. According to the onset of action and maintenance time, insulins can be divided into short-acting, medium-acting, long-acting and premixed insulins, and insulin analogs can be divided into fast-acting, long-acting and premixed insulin analogs. The effect of short-acting insulin lasts 5-8 hours, medium-acting insulin lasts 13-16 hours, long-acting insulin lasts 20 hours, and premixed insulin mostly lasts 14-24 hours. The duration of action of the fast-acting insulin analogues is 3-6 hours, the duration of action of the long-acting insulin analogues is up to 24 hours for digitonin, up to 30 hours for glargine insulin and up to 42 hours for degludec insulin. The duration of action of premixed insulin analogues is 16-24 hours.
