Attention is the mental process by which an individual’s energetic activity is focused on a certain object. Our attention is mostly selective, that is, the individual autonomously focuses on a certain part of the experience and “ignores” the rest of the experience at the same time. But there is a type of attention that is evident in hallucinatory delusions. Let’s first look at what hallucinations are. A hallucination is a perceptual experience that occurs when there is no real stimulus acting on the sensory organs, an illusory perception. This perception is not felt by us, but is felt by the patient, and is a real perceptual experience for the patient. The patient will react accordingly, for example, daze, self-talk, abnormal emotions, etc. These reactions do not correspond to the real environment. However, the patient will continue to pay attention and consume a lot of energy. It is not clear whether the hallucinations are caused by neurological abnormalities or by excessive attention, or both, but both cause sustained attention. The attention is abnormal, and the abnormal attention is directed inward, primarily to perception or thought. Next, look at what delusions are. A delusion is a pathologically distorted belief based on pathological reasoning or judgment. Talk about relational delusions here. Relational delusions refer to the patient’s belief that things that happen in the surrounding environment that are not related to him or her are related to him or her. For example, the belief that the conversations of people around them are talking about oneself and that other people’s coughs are directed at oneself is clearly an abnormal attention that is outwardly directed, but the patient associates the behavior of others with him or herself. Hallucinatory delusions are pathological experiences whose very existence is accompanied by significant energy expenditure, and, as the presence of hallucinatory delusions draws attention, they become a point of focus. Attention requires sufficient energy and requires a lot of energy to maintain it, which is accompanied by energy consumption. If an individual has abnormal attention, it is important to pay attention to the individual’s verbal behavior and seek early medical attention for early diagnosis and treatment.
