What to do if your baby is cross-eyed

Baby’s opposite eye mostly refers to internal strabismus, which can be corrected with glasses, strabismus surgery, and may also be pseudo internal strabismus, which can also be surgically treated to improve the discomfort. Children with strabismus may experience discomfort such as double vision because their eyes are tilted inward. In the case of accommodative strabismus, refractive error can be corrected with glasses to balance the eye position. If conservative treatment is not effective, the child may undergo surgical treatment, such as medial rectus muscle reduction, to correct the eye position. Pseudo-internal strabismus is usually associated with medial canthus, due to the imperfect development of the baby’s facial bones, so there can be a half-moon shaped skin fold at the medial canthus, which reduces the area of the medial sclera, and the child’s eye position is skewed inward when viewed externally, but it is not strabismus, and it can be observed and followed up, and if it does not improve, the patient can be treated with kenoplasty surgery. It is recommended that children with abnormal eye position should be seen promptly for evaluation of their condition and treatment under the guidance of a doctor.
