How to treat venous insufficiency of the lower extremities

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the surgical efficacy and postoperative quality of life of patients with chronic venous insufficiency (CVI) of the lower extremities. METHODS: 171 patients with CVI (193 affected limbs) were divided into three groups A, B and C according to the surgical procedure. The venous clinical severity score (VCSS) and the chronic venous insufficiency questionnaire (CIVIQ) were used to evaluate the postoperative changes in VCSS and quality of life in the three different surgical groups. Results: The postoperative VCSS scores of patients in the three groups were significantly lower than those before surgery (P<0.01), and there was no statistically significant difference in VCSS scores between the three groups after surgery (P>0.05). Conclusion: The CVI can be effectively treated by selecting the appropriate surgical procedure according to the patient’s condition; the application of VCSS and CIVIQ can objectively evaluate the surgical efficacy and quality of life of patients with lower limb CVI.
