The normal value of blood glucose in neonates is between 2.2 and 7 mmol/L. Less than 2.2 mmol/L is neonatal hypoglycemia; greater than or equal to 7 mmol/L is neonatal hyperglycemia. Neonatal hyperglycemia is uncommon in clinical practice, and neonatal hypoglycemia tends to be more common in clinical practice. Neonatal blood glucose greater than 2.2 mmol/L is normal, and if the baby is not born prematurely, the pregnant woman does not have gestational diabetes, and the child is not a huge baby, there are usually no symptoms of hypoglycemia. If the child’s blood sugar is lower than 2.2mmol/L, it is hypoglycemia and needs active treatment, because hypoglycemia may cause damage and neurological sequelae. Clinically, a hypoglycemic child will show lethargy, not easy to wake up, and prolonged hypoglycemia will affect the child’s intellectual development, so blood sugar is routinely measured after birth.
