Do sinus infections cause fever?

It is possible to have fever with sinusitis. Sinusitis is an inflammatory disease of the mucous membrane of the sinuses and can be divided into acute sinusitis and chronic sinusitis. Acute sinusitis often has systemic symptoms and may cause fever, general lethargy and weakness. Sinusitis fever is usually caused by bacterial infection. Common bacteria include Streptococcus hemolyticus and Staphylococcus aureus, etc. When pathogenic bacteria enter the body, they induce a systemic inflammatory response, which in turn leads to fever symptoms. When a patient has a fever, the temperature should be measured and then more water should be drunk to prevent dehydration and water-electrolyte disorders. If the patient’s body temperature is below 38.5°C, he or she needs to be treated with physical means to reduce the temperature, such as using antipyretic patches for cooling. When the patient’s body temperature reaches 38.5°C and above, treatment with antipyretic drugs is often required to relieve the discomfort, such as ibuprofen extended-release granules are commonly used. In addition, the patient should also actively carry out anti-inflammatory treatment, commonly used cephalosporins or penicillin drugs, pay attention to the timely and adequate doses. If sinusitis is diagnosed, in addition to fever, some patients may also experience headache, nasal congestion, runny nose, decreased sense of smell, accompanied by fatigue, loss of appetite, memory loss and other symptoms. Patients should get adequate rest to promote recovery. They should also avoid contact with suspected allergens, such as pollen and chemical materials.
