Blood donation generally means donating whole blood. Through venipuncture, blood from the human body is circulated through a vein and stored in a blood donation bag, and the amount of blood donated is usually between 300-400ml, a process called blood donation. Platelet donation requires a special platelet separator to separate platelets from healthy people for use by patients with thrombocytopenia, a process called platelet donation. So the biggest difference between blood donation and platelet donation is that the composition of the blood products donated is different. The donated whole blood also contains various blood cells and also contains plasma, which can be applied to produce red blood cells, plasma, and cold precipitates from the donated whole blood. Platelet donation, on the other hand, is a simple donation of platelets and can only be used for patients with thrombocytopenia. However, platelet donation takes longer, usually several hours, to be able to a therapeutic amount of platelets.
