What are the dangers of popliteal cysts?

Popliteal cysts occur frequently in patients, and their causes are mostly related to trauma, exertion, and strain. After the occurrence of popliteal cysts, if the cysts are small, there is no irritation to the surrounding neurovascular, and it does not affect the patient’s knee joint activities. There is just positive localized pressure and pain and a feeling of swelling when touched. In this case, the popliteal cyst will not cause great harm, and it can be observed regularly without taking special treatment. If the patient has a popliteal cyst, which grows rapidly in a short period of time, or if the popliteal cyst is large enough to compress the tibial nerve and tibial artery in the popliteal area, and the patient develops decreased skin sensation, tingling, and numbness and weakness in the lower limbs, the situation will have certain adverse consequences if not treated in time. Ultrasonography should be done to accurately locate the position of the cyst and the size of the cyst, and then surgical treatment should be taken to remove the cyst.
