Anorexia caused by weakness of the spleen and stomach usually has a long course of illness, and is divided into three types in Chinese medicine: loss of healthy movement of the spleen (dysfunction of the spleen’s function of transportation and digestion), deficiency of the spleen and stomach qi, and deficiency of the spleen and stomach yin. Anorexia caused by weakness of the spleen and stomach can be treated with medication; however, whether or not it can be cured varies from one person to another, and cannot be cured by any one person. 1. Anorexia caused by loss of healthy movement of the spleen is characterized by loss of appetite, aversion to eating, lack of taste, or accompanied by chest and epigastric constriction (the feeling of fullness and stuffiness in the chest and abdomen), belching (hiccups) and generalized malaise, etc. It is commonly used in the treatment of not exchanging the gold and Zhengqi Sang with additional subtractions and Xiaoer Xiangguan Pills. 2. Anorexia caused by deficiency of spleen and stomach qi, manifesting as not thinking of eating, eating but not transforming, loose stools mixed with undigested food, less colorful, tiredness and fatigue, etc. It is often treated with the addition or subtraction of Isokong San and the treatment of Pediatric Kangning Syrup. 3. Anorexia caused by deficiency of Yin in the spleen and stomach, manifested as not thinking of eating, eating less and drinking more, loss of moist skin, dry stools, short and yellow urine, etc., commonly used to nourish the stomach and increase the liquid soup plus or minus treatment.
