First of all the time required for a facelift is closely related to how many areas you have for surgery. From my personal point of view, I usually divide the face into forehead, temporal, mid face, under face and neck, so you can choose where to lift depending on your laxity. The first task before a facelift is a physical examination, which can only be performed if you are in good health. The operating room will be sterilized and sheeted before the surgery. We will tie up your hair, sterilize most of it, and then wrap your head and lay out the sterile sheet to ensure the sterility of the surgery. Before the surgery, the anesthesiologist will need to give you some medication to slowly put you to sleep. After that, we can administer a local swelling anesthetic that will allow you to fall asleep and be painless. The swelling solution is injected, or water stripping as some doctors call it, to thicken the layers and make the boundaries clearer to avoid damaging important tissues during the surgery. After the injection, you usually have to wait for the pararenin to take effect before the procedure is performed. Paricalcitonin has the effect of narrowing blood vessels and reducing bleeding, and it also prolongs the duration of the local anesthetic effect. After paricalcitonin takes effect, the small blood vessels usually shrink, and the incision will not bleed, reducing intraoperative bleeding. This process is relatively time-consuming and requires care to prevent nerve damage. After the peeling is completed, the fascia needs to be lifted, the SMAS fascia layer is dissected, and then the fascia layer is lifted and fixed to achieve a good result. Afterwards, the excess skin is suspended and fixed in a certain direction according to the individual’s condition, and then the excess skin is removed and sutured, which usually takes one-half of the surgery time. Unlike other surgical procedures that require large stitches, plastic surgery requires 3 to 4 layers of sutures, so it also takes longer and the final scar is smaller. Usually a facelift in one area is around four hours, and 3 or 4 areas may be around five or six hours. If the surgery is compounded with items such as fiber optic lipolysis or facial fillers, it will also increase the time of the surgery. Once the sutures are completed, the surgical site will be bandaged, after which the patient will go back to the ward for observation and wait for the candidate to wake up. Usually the first night, the candidate may appear dizzy and may have some pain in the wound after waking up, which can usually be relieved by taking some painkillers.
