Can you run with a pacemaker?

Whether or not you can still run after pacemaker implantation should be judged according to the patient’s personal situation. If the pacemaker is implanted in the early stage of implantation within 1~3 months, it is generally not recommended that the patient run, so as to avoid affecting the wound healing and lead fixation; after 3 months, when the lead and the myocardium have been fixed, and the wound has healed, and the patient does not have any discomfort, he or she can generally run appropriately.
1. Running is not recommended: At present, the pacemaker is routinely implanted in the left subclavian bone, in the early stage of pacemaker implantation, within 1~3 months, if running, lifting heavy objects and other drastic exercise, it may affect the pacemaker wound healing and lead fixation, so in the early stage of pacemaker implantation, it is not recommended that the patient performs strenuous exercise such as running.
2. Appropriate running: Generally, after 3 months, the lead and myocardium have been completely fixed, the wound has completely healed, daily activities and physical exercise are not affected, and the patient does not have any discomfort such as panic, fatigue, etc. Generally, the patient can run appropriately, but the patient should avoid over-stressing the limb on the side of the pacemaker, such as boxing, pull-ups, and lifting heavy objects.
The pacemaker is implanted in the body, through the pulse generator to issue pulses, through the conductivity of the wire electrodes, stimulate the heart muscle contacted by the electrodes, so that the heart agitation and contraction, the treatment of pathological sinus node syndrome, high degree of atrioventricular block and other cardiac arrhythmia, can be effective in safeguarding the function of the heart beat.
If a patient wants to run after having a pacemaker, it is recommended to visit a hospital and decide on the exercise mode under the guidance of a doctor’s evaluation.
