Bloodletting in acute stage of facial paralysis has certain effect. When patients with facial paralysis suffer from acute stage of illness, most of them are due to wind-cold or wind-heat evils, which invade the meridians and channels, causing blockage and thus causing pain behind the ears. At this time, bloodletting is effective in treatment, which can dredge the meridians and collaterals, dissolve blood stasis and reduce swelling. However, bloodletting therapy is usually effective only in the acute stage, and the effect is limited in the recovery and after-effects stage.
