The treatment of liver failure includes general treatment, etiologic treatment, artificial liver treatment, liver transplantation treatment and so on.
1. General treatment: patients need bed rest to reduce physical exertion. Strengthen oral care and intestinal management to prevent infection.
2. Etiologic treatment: as follows.
(1) HBV (hepatitis B virus) infection: antiviral treatment, such as lamivudine, entecavir, tenofovir, etc.
(2) Herpes virus or varicella-zoster virus infection: treatment with acyclovir is available and liver transplantation should be considered.
(3) Drug-induced liver injury: first stop using the suspected drug, in addition, N-acetylcysteine can be used, which helps to treat acute liver failure caused by drug-induced liver injury.
(4) Muscarinic poisoning: Penicillin G and silymarin can be applied.
(5) Acute fatty liver in pregnancy: terminate pregnancy immediately.
(6) Autoimmune hepatitis: prednisone can be used.
3. Artificial liver treatment: artificial liver can remove harmful substances, improve the internal environment and temporarily replace the function of liver until the autologous liver cell regeneration and liver function can be restored.
4. Liver transplantation: it is the most effective way to treat end-stage liver failure, and it is also the fundamental measure to improve the survival rate of liver failure patients.
Patients with liver failure should not take medication by themselves, but should go to the hospital in time and receive standardized treatment under the doctor’s guidance.
