Alkaline phosphatase 311 U/L is normal in children under 15 years of age and elevated in adults, which can be seen in physiologic conditions such as pregnancy and post-fatty meal secretion, as well as pathologic conditions such as liver and gallbladder disease and bone disease.
Alkaline phosphatase is an enzyme distributed in tissues such as liver, bone, kidney, and placenta, and excreted out of the bile through the liver. Its normal value is <500U/L for children aged 1-12 years; <750U/L for males aged 12-15 years; and 40-150U/L for males over 25 years and females over 15 years.
Therefore, alkaline phosphatase 311U/L is normal for children who are growing and developing; for adults, it is increased, which can be seen in physiological and pathological conditions.
1. Physiological increase: mainly related to bone growth, pregnancy and fat secretion after meals, which can cause physiological increase in alkaline phosphatase.
2. Pathological increase: commonly seen in hepatobiliary system diseases, such as various intrahepatic and extrahepatic bile duct obstruction diseases, such as biliary stones, biliary cirrhosis, etc.; bone diseases, such as fibrous osteitis, rickets, osteochondritis dissecans, etc.; also can be seen in malnutrition, severe anemia and so on.
