Consequences of not having surgery for cataracts

If cataract patients do not undergo surgical treatment, they may suffer from vision loss, glare and visual field defects in mild cases, and glaucoma, uveitis and other complications in serious cases. 1. Loss of vision: this is the most obvious symptom. In advanced cataract without surgery, the vision can be reduced to light perception. 2. Glare: Due to the clouding of the lens, light enters the eye and scatters, and the symptom of glare may appear. 3. Visual field defects: The cloudy lens blocks the light, resulting in different degrees of visual field defects. 4. Glaucoma: During the cataract expansion stage, the increased size of the lens can block the angle of the atrium, resulting in the blockage of aqueous humor circulation and the increase of intraocular pressure, causing glaucoma. 5. Uveitis: when cataract is over mature, the lens can liquefy and overflow from the cortex into the aqueous humor, causing autoimmunity and leading to lens allergic uveitis. At present, China’s cataract surgery technology is mature, it is recommended that cataract patients or as early as possible surgery is appropriate to avoid adverse consequences.
