Tooth decay is clinically referred to as dental caries, and is generally not self-healing without filling. Early caries has not yet formed a cavity, or static caries, the use of medication, may be able to remineralize. Other cases of caries generally need to be filled. Caries is a bacterial infection that is usually progressive in nature and usually does not heal on its own. In the case of early stage caries, where no cavities have formed yet, or in the case of resting caries, remineralization may be possible using medication such as fluoride or other remineralizing agents applied to the tooth surface. In other cases, caries can only be treated by grinding away the decayed material and filling the tooth after removing the decayed material. Therefore, if tooth decay occurs, it is recommended to go to the hospital in time and give targeted treatment or therapy under the guidance of the doctor.
