The incidence of constipation after rectal cancer surgery is high, and at the same time, it will bring certain impact on patients’ life. After rectal cancer patients undergo surgery, they will mostly have artificial stoma. Constipation after rectal cancer surgery may be due to outlet obstruction, at this time, the intestines and stomach are in the repair stage after surgery, and it is not easy to peristaltic movement. Constipation at this time is mainly related to the condition of the stoma. Some patients may be related to the problem of colon movement. Therefore, it is suggested that patients should do a colon transmission test to rule out whether it is slow transmission, or do an abdominal CT examination to rule out whether it is abdominal metastasis that leads to recurrence of rectal cancer. Gastrointestinal dysfunction and anastomotic stenosis after rectal cancer surgery may cause constipation. On the one hand, we should pay more attention to diet, not to eat spicy, fried, salty and hard food, but mainly soft, rotten and well-digested food, eat more vegetables and fruits, and develop good habits of regular bowel movement to prevent constipation. Methods to relieve and treat constipation after rectal cancer surgery: 1, Western medicine treatment can be used glycerin or paraffin oil; or cut off the head end of the open plug, slowly inserted into the anus, squeeze in the liquid and then tolerate 5-10 minutes to defecate. 2.Eat more vegetables, fruits and foods containing more fiber appropriately, and increase the amount of exercise appropriately, which can also increase the number of bowel movements and shorten the interval time. 3, for pelvic floor muscle function exercises, such as deep breathing, jumping, abdominal exercises, leg flexion exercises, etc., can increase abdominal muscle tension, but also promote intestinal peristalsis, fitness and correction of habitual constipation is very effective. Those with increasingly severe symptoms should go to the hospital for examination to determine whether there are organic diseases, etc. Postoperative constipation care for rectal cancer patients: 1. Provide dietary guidance to patients, with easy-to-digest food as the mainstay, avoiding food that is too dilute or too much coarse fiber. Eat more soy products, eggs, fish, etc. to make the stool dry and easy to clean and handle. 2.Teach the patient to master the intensity of activity appropriately to avoid excessive activity to increase abdominal pressure and cause artificial anal mucosa prolapse. 3.Let the patient master the application method of the artificial anal bag. Before using the anal bag, the skin around it should be washed with water, the bag should be loosened and tightened appropriately, and it should be washed at any time to avoid infection and reduce odor. 4.Guide the patient to master the care of artificial anus, regularly finger dilation, if found narrow or defecation difficulties, promptly go to the hospital for review. Develop the habit of regular toileting and defecation, and regularly and consciously guide defecation. Exercise appropriately, and do activities within your ability according to your age and health condition, such as walking, gymnastics, and taijiquan. When exercise is inconvenient, 2~3 times daily abdominal massage (10 minutes clockwise massage). Strengthen the abdominal wall muscles and the contraction force of the anal muscle practice, eliminate mental tension, according to the physical condition, appropriate activities to promote gastrointestinal peristalsis, help the smooth passage of stool. If constipation is serious and the above measures are ineffective, laxatives can be used as appropriate, and glycerin suppositories can also be placed in the anus, open cork, etc. to promote defecation. But should avoid the abuse of laxatives or enemas, so as not to cause intestinal muscle sluggishness.
