Rectal cancer doesn’t last long if the anus is preserved, right?

It is wrong to say that basically those who preserve the anus in rectal cancer can not live long, and this statement can not be generalized, but should be analyzed by specific conditions.
Rectal cancer is a common intestinal malignant tumor. Whether to preserve the anus or not depends on the pathological type and pathological stage of rectal cancer patients.
The condition of anal preservation needs to meet the goal of achieving complete radical treatment and improving the quality of life. If the anus is useless after anal preservation in low rectal cancer, the improvement of quality of life will not be achieved. Cancer more than 5cm away from dentate line, higher site and early rectal cancer can be preferred to anorectal preservation surgery.
Surgery without anal preservation is more thorough, with a wide range of surgical resection, which can remove the tumor cleanly, but it requires permanent fistula after surgery, which decreases the quality of life of patients and is also prone to complications, such as bleeding, infection, and so on.
How long the patients can live with or without anal preservation needs to be analyzed according to the specific situation, such as the degree of disease, type of pathology, surgical method, patient’s physical and mental status, postoperative care and adherence to treatment and many other factors are comprehensively evaluated, which can all affect the survival rate after their operation.
Rectal cancer requires early detection, early diagnosis and early treatment. Once detected, seek timely medical treatment and choose the appropriate treatment under the guidance of doctors to avoid delaying the condition.
