How long does it usually take for esophagitis to heal?

How long it takes for clinical esophagitis to heal depends on what type of esophagitis it is. The course of treatment for common GERD with erosion is usually at least 6-8 weeks; some non-erosive esophagitis may take longer than 8 weeks to heal, and there is some individual variation. The most common type of esophagitis is reflux esophagitis caused by GERD, and the most common type of reflux esophagitis is the type with erosions. Clinical gastroscopy can be graded as A, B, C, or D. Esophagitis with erosion is treated clinically with PPI-type medications, and the course of treatment usually takes 6-8 weeks. Thereafter, intermittent maintenance is recommended, as GERD is characterized by a chronic course that does not heal. For esophagitis without erosion, the recovery time is slower with PPI drugs than with erosion, and it is recommended to apply them for at least 8 weeks, and to take oral drugs for long-term maintenance according to the symptoms. In addition to PPI drugs, a combination of gastrointestinal drugs, lifestyle improvement, and avoidance of triggering factors is recommended for the treatment of esophagitis.
