What causes lower eyelid swelling in infants

The main causes of lower eyelid swelling in infants include drinking too much water, eye trauma, allergies and mosquito bites.
1. Drinking too much water: If the baby drinks too much water the night before, the venous return is not smooth at night, coupled with the loose subcutaneous tissues of the lower eyelid, so the baby wakes up in the morning with puffy eyelids, which can be relieved after resting, and does not need special treatment.
2. Eye trauma: If the lower eyelid of an infant hits the hard corner of the table, resulting in subcutaneous capillary rupture and bleeding, redness, swelling, pain and other symptoms of discomfort in the lower eyelid.
3. Allergy: When local allergy occurs in the lower eyelids of infants, the permeability of local capillaries increases, and intravascular substances penetrate into the subcutaneous tissues, which can lead to swelling of the lower eyelids of the children, and can be accompanied by eyelid itching and other discomforts.
4. Mosquito bites: After mosquito bites on the lower eyelid skin of infants, generally localized red, doughnut-like papules can appear, so children can appear lower eyelid redness, swelling, itching and other discomforts.
It is recommended that children with obvious swelling of the lower eyelids be seen in a hospital in a timely manner to assess their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
