Whether prostate cancer surgery requires total resection mainly depends on whether the prostate cancer is early prostate cancer or advanced prostate cancer.
1. Early stage prostate cancer: radical prostatectomy is usually adopted, with the scope of resection including all prostate glands and seminal vesicles, followed by reconstruction of urinary pathway. For intermediate and high-risk prostate cancer patients, expanded pelvic lymph node dissection is also needed to ensure that all tumor lesions are removed and prevent residual recurrence.
2. Advanced prostate cancer: most of the patients with advanced prostate cancer usually have metastasis, and radical prostatectomy can not achieve the goal of radical treatment. At this time, endocrine therapy (such as drug debulking and surgical debulking) can be used. Surgical debulking is to surgically remove both testicles of the patient, and radiotherapy or chemotherapy can also be chosen according to the condition.
For prostate cancer surgery, please follow the doctor’s advice and make a reasonable treatment plan. Please do not take medication by yourself. It is recommended to go to the hospital for diagnosis and treatment under the guidance of the doctor.
