Acupuncture treatment started 35 years ago, and now it has formed a more mature treatment system and is also a very effective treatment method. However, this treatment method is more popular in the south, and patients are more accepted and recognized. Because of the late development in the north, patients do not understand its efficacy and treatment methods, there are many concerns and questions when treating, so I will summarize the common problems encountered during clinical treatment and answer them. 1.Does it hurt during acupuncture treatment? Here I clearly tell you, if not anesthesia, needle knife treatment still has pain, especially the waist and certain parts of the limbs, pain is still more obvious, but if you are less sensitive to pain, the pain can be tolerated. Many acupuncturists used to tell their patients that it didn’t hurt when they stuck the needles in, and that was a gimmick, or he just stuck the needles in and didn’t do any further treatment (usually this does not achieve clinical efficacy). Because the purpose of acupuncture treatment is not simply to stick needles into the body, but to enter the body in the form of needles, and then further play the role of the “knife” to carry out a series of treatments on the diseased tissue. Although this “knife” is very small, so small that the blade is only 0.4mm – 1.0mm, but without anesthesia, most people still can not accept. Therefore, when I perform the needle knife treatment, I have to numb the treatment area, although there will be a little bit of sensation when the numbing needle is stuck into the skin, but if even this pain is not tolerated, then there is no way to talk about any disease treatment. Since it is a local anesthetic, it has no effect on the patient as a whole. The anesthetic can generally maintain a pain-free state for 2-3 hours. When the effect of the anesthetic wears off, there will be mild discomfort, or soreness or pain at the eye of the needle, and this feeling usually disappears in 2-3 days. There is also a special case where the doctor uses the acupuncture knife as an acupuncture needle. Since the needle knife is thicker than the acupuncture needles, its acupuncture point stimulation effect is much stronger than the acupuncture needles, and does not leave the needles, in this case there is no need for anesthesia, because the doctor will pierce the needle knife into the acupuncture points quickly, due to the fast action, the patient will have no pain. Moreover, anesthesia will affect the efficacy of the treatment, so you can not play anesthesia. 2.Why do I hear sound during the needle knife treatment? In most cases, the needle knife treatment is equivalent to a minimally invasive minor surgery, when the doctor to the lesion tissue cut, cutting and other treatment, because the tissue has been lesions, its thickness and toughness than the normal tissue has changed significantly, or thickened, or become tough, so you will hear the “click, click” sound. 3.Is acupuncture treatment safe? On this issue, I often use the analogy of cooking. The knife we use to cook can be used to cut vegetables as well as to injure people, the key is what you use it for and how you use it. If used in the hands of a good chef, you can make a variety of beautiful dishes without hurting yourself. And used in the hands of a crappy chef, it is possible to make the dish ugly, and may hurt themselves. The key to the problem is not the apparatus but the person using it. Although the needle knife is not strictly speaking a knife, but its blade is small, but very sharp, if not used properly, can also cause adverse consequences. Just like a scalpel, it can remove lesions, but also may injure normal tissue. Therefore, it is best for the user of the needle knife to be an orthopedic surgeon with many years of clinical experience. Due to years of surgical experience, coupled with precise anatomical knowledge, the safety of needle knife treatment is guaranteed. 4.Is there any side effect of acupuncture treatment? As already mentioned above, needle knife treatment is equivalent to a minimally invasive surgery, and inevitably causes some trauma to normal tissues when treating lesions, but because the blade of the needle knife is very narrow, the trauma caused when it passes through normal tissues is very small and does not cause obvious side effects. Unless the operator injures important blood vessels and nerves during the treatment. This is the reason why I emphasize that patients should not easily go to small clinics. As for the local swelling and pain in the eye of the needle after acupuncture treatment, it is a normal reaction. This is due to the treatment of local congestion, exudation, generally after a week or so can subside. 5.How often is the treatment usually done? Do I need to stick needles every day? It is not necessary to stick the needles every day, and it is not necessary to stick the needles again where they have been stuck. Because the disease is different, the area and number of needles needed are also different. Some patients with long and serious illnesses may need many needles to be lanced to solve the problem, so that they cannot be lanced all at once, and the patient will not be able to bear it. Since there will be mild swelling and painful reaction after the acupuncture treatment, the duration of this reaction is usually about a week, so we usually carry out the second treatment after a week. In addition, each person has a different tolerance level for the treatment. If the patient is well tolerated, a simple disease may be completely resolved with 5-6 stitches at a time. If the patient belongs to the nervous type, it needs to be treated in stages to avoid needle sickness. 6.Will the needle knife cure still commit? Many acupuncturists tell patients that acupuncture treatment can remove the root, which is not scientific. The long-term efficacy of acupuncture treatment depends on the disease you are suffering from. If it is just a strain disease, it is possible to avoid re-injury after treatment and not commit it. If it is a more complex disease, such as lumbar disc herniation, acupuncture can be a good solution to the patient’s back and leg pain symptoms, but the disease can develop with age and a single treatment is unlikely to solve the long-term problem. Another example is cervical spondylosis caused by long-term computer use and desk work. If the work and lifestyle are not changed, acupuncture treatment can only solve the immediate problem, and the disease will develop again in the future. But anyway, there is at least one treatment that can relieve the pain, and as for the future, who can grasp it! Everyone is running for a living, sometimes knowing the outcome, but who can really let go?
