What medications can be used to treat vulvovaginitis in young children?

       The treatment and medications vary depending on the pathogen and cause of vaginitis. Since the most common form of vulvovaginitis in young girls is bacterial infection, we will focus on the treatment of bacterial infection. Before the results of the culture of the secretions are available, the medication is given according to experience, and after the results of the culture of the secretions are available, the medication is adjusted according to the efficacy of the original medication.  Bacterial vaginitis is divided into systemic and local medications.  Due to the special characteristics of young girls, the use of oral or intravenous drugs is prohibited for children, and penicillin or cephalosporin antibiotics are mostly used. For external use, antibiotic ointment or eye drops can be used. Due to the small vaginal opening of young girls, vaginal suppositories cannot be used.
