The ear area is prone to keloid scars, also known as keloidomas, which mostly appear after ear piercing or trauma and are related to the patient’s physique. Keloid is really a big problem in plastic surgery and otology, there are many patients, cut once and grow once, so generally we don’t do surgery unless the keloid affects the life such as: itching, ulceration, etc. Then surgery is performed. And it is easy to recur after surgery, so generally early intervention with trimethoprim and cytotoxic drugs (such as pentafluorouracil, pinyamycin), late treatment is commonly used after excision local radiation, many patients have effect but not ideal. Therefore, prevention of this disease is more important. Some traumatic injuries can be prevented: such as ear piercing, scissor cuts during haircutting, tearing the auricle when parents physically punish children, or sharp nails piercing the auricle. Ear piercing should be done carefully, and parents should not hurt their children with corporal punishment.
