Scleritis may be caused by systemic infectious diseases, metabolic abnormalities, immune abnormalities, etc. Patients often experience eye pain, vision loss, photophobia, tearing and other uncomfortable symptoms. 1. Eye pain: Inflammation can involve the deep sclera and the whole scleral tissue, resulting in scleral congestion and bulbar conjunctival edema. Most patients will experience eye discomfort or pain, which is aggravated at night. Eye pain can also cause headache or facial pain on the same side. 2. Loss of vision: Inflammation leads to necrosis of the scleral tissue, and patients may show a mild loss of vision and a slight increase in intraocular pressure. Severe necrosis can lead to perforation of the eyeball, which may result in permanent vision loss. 3. Photophobia, tearing: under the stimulation of inflammation, patients with scleritis may experience tearing, photophobia and other uncomfortable symptoms. It is recommended that patients with scleritis seek medical attention to evaluate their condition and follow the doctor’s instructions for treatment.
