Starvation ketosis is a condition in which the body is starving and does not have enough carbohydrates to supply energy, and the body is forced to undergo lipolysis to supply energy. Ketone bodies are the products of oxidative decomposition of fatty acids. When too many ketone bodies are produced, a positive urinary ketone body and elevated blood ketone bodies occur, which is called starvation ketosis. Under normal circumstances, the body can produce a small amount of ketone bodies for the application of red blood cells and brain tissue. When the body is in a long-term starvation state, ketone bodies become the main source of energy for red blood cells and brain cells. However, ketone bodies are strongly acidic, and when they accumulate in large amounts, they can easily lead to ketoacidosis, which is a serious metabolic disorder of acid-base balance and requires active treatment. Also diabetic ketosis or diabetic ketoacidosis can occur when there is a significant increase in blood sugar in diabetic patients.
