Can you break a bone without a cast?

Whether a cast is needed after a fracture should be determined according to the specific condition. Generally, two treatment methods can be adopted after a fracture: conservative treatment and surgical treatment, in which most of the conservative treatment requires cast or brace fixation, and some of the patients need cast fixation after surgical treatment.
Fracture is due to external violence factors cause the integrity and continuity of the bone is interrupted, the clinical manifestations of pain, swelling, deformity, activity limitation and so on. For patients with less fracture damage and small displacement, conservative treatment methods can be used, with cast or support for immobilization.
Since the fracture end is unstable after fracture, conservative treatment usually requires braking and immobilization with a cast or brace to keep the fracture end in a stable environment and to promote fracture healing. Failure to immobilize can lead to repeated micro-movements of the fracture end, which may result in delayed healing or even non-union of the fracture.
For patients with severe fracture injury, obvious displacement or with neurovascular injury, most of them need to take surgical treatment methods, surgical incision and reduction internal fixation, and some of the patients also need to be immobilized with plaster after surgery.
After the fracture, patients should go to the hospital in time, complete the relevant examination, clarify the degree of injury, and make reasonable treatment plan under the guidance of the doctor, and actively treat to promote recovery.
