In the clinic, we often encounter patients who do not know when is the best time to get dental implants after tooth extraction. They say that some doctors say three months after the extraction, some say that the implant should be placed at the time of extraction, and some say two months after the extraction. The reason why different doctors have different answers is because each doctor accepts the concept whether it is the most advanced international research or the traditional view. As we all know, dental technology materials are changing rapidly with the development of science and technology, and a lot of new clinical research is being done to innovate the concept of dental implants. Traditionally, we are generally required to implant a denture three months after the extraction of a tooth. Later, many foreign doctors adopted immediate extraction and immediate implantation to prevent bone resorption after tooth extraction. However, studies have shown that immediate extraction and immediate implantation does not result in less bone resorption, but rather affects the implantation due to the uncertainty of bone resorption. The immediate extraction and immediate implant encountered challenges, but the immediate extraction and immediate implant has a great advantage, in addition to being a good solution to the cosmetic requirements of the patient at the time of the extraction (immediate extraction is often followed by immediate restoration). This means that there is a clinical tooth immediately after the extraction, but also that the morphology of the gums is well resolved, making the final restoration more aesthetically pleasing. So generally speaking immediate extractions and immediate implants are now in the aesthetic zone of the anterior teeth, treating the posterior teeth is not necessary. Nowadays, according to the latest opinion (according to the consensus of the ITI members), the bone formation that plays a stabilizing role can be implanted 6-8 weeks after tooth extraction, so that on the one hand the gums are restored and there are implants in the alveolar sockets to reduce the resorption of the alveolar bone. However, in the case of bone implants after tooth extraction, or in the case of patients undergoing maxillary sinus surgery, it is generally 4-6 months after tooth extraction. In conclusion, it is best to have implants 6-8 weeks after tooth extraction, 4-6 months after bone grafting surgery, and immediate implants after immediate tooth extraction mostly in the anterior region.
