The clinical knee-chest position is mainly used for the examination and treatment of diseases of the rectum and anal canal. For benign rectal diseases, such as hemorrhoids, anal fistula, anal fissure, and rectal polyps, the initial diagnosis can be made by visualization and palpation. For patients with hemorrhoids of degree III or higher, the knee-chest position can also be used for hemorrhoidectomy, anal fistulae, partial excision of rectal polyps, and excision of anal fissures. Because the knee-chest position is mainly to let the patient lying on the side, the knee with both hands, flat on the chest, so as to fully expose the rectal anal canal.
