Causes of Qi and Blood Deficiency

Chinese medicine believes that the etiology of qi and blood insufficiency includes factors such as insufficient innate endowment (poor innate constitution and function), improper diet, depletion from prolonged illness, and frailty in old age. 1. Inadequate innate endowment: because of the innate weakness of the body, the function of the internal organs is low, resulting in insufficient transportation of qi and blood. 2. Improper diet: due to dietary irregularities or excessive consumption of fat, sweet and thick flavors, resulting in impaired function of the spleen and stomach, qi and blood biochemical lack of source, resulting in qi and blood deficiency. 3. Prolonged illness: prolonged illness damages one’s own qi and blood, leading to qi and blood deficiency. 4. Elderly and weak: with the growth of age, the body function declines, and the function of internal organs decreases, resulting in qi and blood insufficiency. Patients with insufficient qi and blood mainly show symptoms such as colorless face, shortness of breath and lazy speech, palpitations and insomnia, and fatigue (mental exhaustion and physical weakness). Patients with Qi and blood deficiency are advised to go to a regular hospital for treatment under the guidance of a professional physician to identify the symptoms.
