Chronic inflammation of the vocal fold mucosa with squamous epithelium presenting as high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia: a serious problem?

Chronic inflammation of the vocal fold mucosa with squamous epithelium showing high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia is a precancerous lesion pathologically, and regular laryngoscopy is needed to observe whether cancerous lesions will occur.
Vocal fold mucosa is stimulated by inflammation for a long period of time, and squamous epithelial precancerous lesions appear, and the local elevation resembles tumor-like changes, but it is not a real tumor. In high-grade intraepithelial neoplasia, severe heterogeneous hyperplastic changes of the vocal fold mucosa are mostly considered.
The combination of these two conditions is precancerous, but not truly cancerous. Regular follow-up is needed to prevent the vocal fold mucosa from becoming cancerous.
In normal times, it is necessary to avoid smoking and drinking as well as excessive and strenuous vocalizations, so as to avoid the recurrence of the disease due to excessive friction of the vocal fold mucosa.
